Confusion mars Yakhama fate at Vihiga United

Confusion continues to mar the fate of Nick Yakhama’s role at Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Vihiga United after he denied reports that he’s left the club insisting that he’s still the club’s Technical Director.

Club chairman Kahi Indimuli was yesterday quoted by a local daily saying that they had parted ways with Yakhama on ‘mutual consent’ after scrapping the position of Technical Director.

However, speaking to Citizen Digital, Indimuli said that they had given Yakhama permission to be away and will be waiting for his return unless he decides otherwise.

“He requested for three months leave and definitely as a club we allowed him… if the requested time ends and he wants to come back he will tell us and if he will not come back we shall decide on whether to look for someone else, or scrap the position,” he said.

However, according to Yakhama, he’s on a three months leave to focus on his duties with the national team where he serves as the team manager for the Under-17 side.

“I took some time off for about three months to focus on the national team and then after that we shall talk on whether I will be coming back or not but for now I am still the technical director of Vihiga,” he said.

The experienced tactician added that it’s up to the club to make further calls on whether they will look for someone else during his absence or wait for his return.

“If the team will need a technical director during my time off they will look for one but if they will wait for me it’s also okay,” he added.

At the same time Indimuli says they are in the market for an assistant head coach to help head coach Sammy Okoth.

Before the league was halted, Vihiga United were at position 16 with 11 points from 16 matches.

The club has struggled to pay players’ salaries and bonuses, a situation exacerbated by Covid-19.
