Cheruiyot stars as Obiri struggles in Stockholm DL

World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot made it two wins a row as he stormed to victory at the second leg of the Diamond League series held in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday.

Cheruiyot picked from where he left at the Monaco meet a week ago as he led from gun to tape to clock 3:30.25 ahead the in-form Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway who came home second in 3:30.74

Meanwhile, Obiri who won 5000m race in Monaco was set for another epic clash with European 1500m champion Laura Muir of Great Britain, but struggled to keep the pace in the 1500m race as she came home a distant 11th in 4:10.53

It was a podium sweep for the Britons as Muir threatened the meeting record winning the race in 3:57.86 ahead of compatriots Laura Weightman (4:01.2) and Melissa Courtney-Bryant (4:01.81)

Africa 1500m champion Winnie Chebet timed 4:02.58 to settle for the fourth spot.

Elsewhere, world 800m bronze medalist Ferguson Rotich improved from the 8th spot he placed in Monaco as he ranked fourth in the 800m race clocking 1:45.11 as the world champion Donavan Brazier continued his red-hot form storming to victory in 1:43.76 to make it three consecutive wins in a week.
