Chase Amira, JKUAT share the spoils in an even league contest

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) forced a 1-1 draw with Chase Amira in the Women Hockey Premier League match played Saturday afternoon at City Park in Nairobi.

Aneta Okumu gave the bankers the lead in the 29th minute after deflecting in Jedidah Zawadi’s shot but her goal was cancelled by JKUAT’s Wimberly Nyawo nine minutes before the final whistle.

Following the draw, the bankers took their points tally to 13 from nine games and remains in position three on the league table.

The students could have taken the lead in the 21st minute but the bankers’ goalie, Maryanne Kimani, denied JKUAT’S lone striker Jesse Hannah, the only chance they had in the entire first half.

Chase Amira failed to double their lead a few minutes after the break when their penalty corner was punched away by the students’ goalie, Emma Aruni.

In a post-match interview with Citizen Digital, Thomas Mucheni, Chase head coach said he was disappointed by the results.

“This is not the results that we wanted. We wanted to score more goals and collect the maximum points against JKUAT,” Mucheni lamented.

JKUAT captain, Njoki Kuria, said the team was contented with the point earned.

“A draw against Chase is like a win for us, we are very much excited because we have lost our last two games,” Njoki noted.

Prior to this match, JKUAT had lost 3-0 to fellow students Strathmore University as Chase Amira crushed Vikings 6-1 last weekend .

In a men Premier League match, Kenya Police beat bottom placed Western Jagaurs 1-0 to move their points tally to 45, level with league leaders Butali Warriors.

Willis Okeyo penalty flick was enough to give police three important points The Warriors are still at the top of the table courtesy of a superior goal difference of 50 compared to Police’s 27.

Butali have played 17 games; losing two, while the law enforcers have played 16 games, suffering one defeat in the process.

The western based club, Butali, is scheduled to play their 18th match tomorrow against sixth place Sikh Union at City Park and in an event they earn a point, they will open a narrow gap at the top.
