Charging Equity run past KU Oryx in league encounter

Equity Bank continued with their relentless march for the championship title as they dismissed KU Oryx 57-24 in a one-sided encounter at the USIU grounds on Saturday.

The first quarter seemed to be a non-ending nightmare for the students as the bankers rained terror in their half for the better part of the opening minutes acquiring a 15-0 point lead by the end of the first period.

Oryx side came back stronger in the subsequent quarters but their efforts were no match for the experienced bankers who outscored them 15-7, 15-9, 12-8 in the remaining quarters.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Equity head coach David Maina admitted that the game wasn’t tough for them due to their immense preparations in training.

“We are taking each game at a time and I’m happy for the girls having maintained their five game winning streak,” he said.

“The match also acted as a build up for the Zone 5 Championship and I’m looking forward to the same performance as we face Storms tomorrow (Sunday),”he added.

In the men’s match, Trailblazers took the early lead outscoring Umoja 14-11 in the first quarter. Both teams came back stronger in the last half but Umoja were the better team posting a 12-16 and 17-12 scoreline, to win the game 61-51.
