Champs Queens set training resumption date, aim to retain title

Vihiga Queens are set to return to training on Monday after the Christmas break as they bid to get in shape ahead of their next Women Premier League match.

Head coach Alex Alumira says the girls are all set after a 10-day break rest, with their eyes trained on Oserian Ladies, whom they confront on January 9 at the Mumias Sports Complex.

Vihiga started the new season on high note, registering two wins – a 2-0 victory against Wadadia and 1-0 against SEP Oyugis  – and will be looking to make it three wins out of three when they tackle the Oserian based side.

“We will resume our training on Monday so that we can have an adequate time to prepare for Oserian match, Oserian are very tough side to beat despite losing their first two matches. They have a very experienced coach Hudson Odari, who happens to be my great friend, but all in all we shall work hard and defeat them,”‘ he said.

“Many people are wondering why we are not winning with big margins as it was our norm, but I want to tell them that I am working on our finishing department. The big problem is with my strikers who are not utilizing the chances created and I believe we shall overcome that soon.”

“We have decided to hit the ground early enough because I believe the girls are still in the festive mood, they were relaxing, eating and enjoying with their families and friends so now they must bring their full concentration into the training.”

Alumira however added that his main aim is to retain the title this season, noting that he doesn’t see any obstacle.

“I want to retain the title this season, we are known for this, and I am sure we shall do it. I believe in my players and the signings I have made. We have started well, that’s the momentum till the end,” he enthused.

Oserian Ladies on their part gave a walk over after they failed to avail themselves in scheduled match against Nakuru West before suffering a 3-1 defeat in the hands of Kisumu Starlets.
