Champions Kangaru off of the mark at Embu Games

Kangaru School have one foot in the basketball quarter finals at the Embu County Secondary School Term One Games after winning both their opening fixtures on home court.

The defending champions defeated Moi High School Mbiruri 34-15 and saw off King David High School Kamama 36-20 in low-scoring ties as they went top of Pool A.

Shooting guard Gideon Kyalo led the way for Kangaru against Mbiruri, contributing a game-high nine points to get the Falcons off to a winning start at the Regional Games.

Kangaru head coach David Munya applauded his charges saying the games are thus far more competitive than they were last year.

“The games are so far competitive but in a basketball match you have to take your chances and that’s what we did scoring most of the chances we got,” he said.

He however slammed their defensive play, saying they allowed their opponents to score easy points when they should have kept them off.

“The boys were lazy at the back allowing the opponents score easy points which could have been defended but we are going back in the drawing board and rectify our today’s mistakes,” Munya added.

His counterpart Teddy Ouma applauded Kangaru saying his charges has to work harder in their next matches.

“We have to rise into the occasion and pull up our socks in our remaining games.”

“Yes I want more of my boys I believe they can overturn the group and make it to the regions,” he believes Ouma.
