Butali, Blazers complete invincible seasons
Butali Sugar Warriors and Blazers were finally crowned champions as the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) titans completed unbeaten campaigns in respective men and women’s leagues on Sunday.
Butali overcame Greensharks 4-2 fueled by Amos Barkibir’s hat-trick as the back to back champions wrapped up another dominant season in which they won 15 of 18 their matches.
George Mutira added the other for Butali and Chris Wokila hit a double for Sharks.
Butali coach David Owaka was full of praise for his charges and attributed their continuous success to to recruitment of ‘new, young and vibrant players’ and promised there is more to come.
“Next season we are going to work on our penalty shots as we defend and keep the trail. Moreover, we will allow our senior players to step aside to allow out young players participate fully,” said Owaka.
His sentiments were enchored by Kenneth Nyongesa the team’s captain saying that most of their targets were achieved.
The duo revealed that they need a trophy beyond Kenya and was hopeful that next year they will go for the Africa Cup for Club Championship.
Blazers on the other hand bagged 38 straight points to seal their win.
The 22nd successive times Winners managed to draw twice,winning all their 12 matches.They recorded a total of nine clean sheets.
Blazers Assistant Coach Josephine Ataro hauled the team for their success saying the unity in the club has contributed to their consecutive win.
“That togetherness in our club has made us win the title always.No player has left the club. I am so happy the girls worked hard ,”explained Ataro.
Ataro intimated to Citizen Digital that this season’s short corners were poor and they will work on it next season.
This season’s runners up are Wazalendo Hockey Club and USIU women.
