Busia sweep three titles at KYISA Games but no trophies are awarded

Busia dominated the Kenya Youth Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) Games winning three titles out of a possible six to end the week-long championships on a high.

They clinched the first title on Friday, their men basketball team beating Makueni 51-46 in the final played at the Busia County basketball court. Nakuru beat Turkana 44-34 in playoffs to take third position.

The second title on Saturday came in ladies soccer category where they defied all odds to oust defending champions Kwale 1-0 with Maureen Okoth scoring the lone goal in the 29th minute of play.

The team had qualified for quarterfinals as the second best losers but they proved critics wrong to beat Nyandarua 3-0 in the quarterfinals and Nakuru 2-1 in the semis. Nakuru took third position.

The third title came in volleyball ladies where they rallied from a set down to beat Kakamega 3-1(22-25, 25-16,25-20, 25-15). Siaya beat Kwale 3-1 to take third place.

Volleyball men title went to Trans Nzoia who came from a set down to beat Kwale 3-1 while outgoing champions Kirinyaga took third position after beating Meru 3-1.

The football match between Busia and Nakuru was abandoned in the 88th minute after Valentine Otieno scored from a rebound to draw 1-1 with defending champions Kakamega. Fredrick Sebete had put Kakamega into the lead in the 38th minute.

Fans flooded the pitch to celebrate the goal culminating in three Kakamega players remaining in the pitch  “injured” for over 40 minutes claiming they were attacked by Busia fans.

The match was called off after the police evacuated them to safety. Trophies and prizes were not given to winning teams.
