Brigid Kosgei signs partnership deal with Stanbic Bank

Stanbic Bank Kenya has unveiled world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei as its brand ambassador in a two-year partnership deal.

Kosgei will promote the ‘It can Be’ brand of the Bank which aims at inspiring and encouraging both internal and external stakeholders to dream big and achieve their goals.

The Chief Executive for Stanbic Charles Mudiwa said they chose to work with Kosgei owing to her unique story having overcome challenges to be a successful athlete.

“We are building our aspirational It Can Be, which is our do we deal with dreams and Brigid is going to work with us as we build that dream. Her story is about dreams and overcoming obstacles. We are looking towards working with her to encourage young people through sharing her story,” said Mudiwa.

Speaking at the event held Thursday at the Villa Rosa Kempinski, Kosgei narrated her struggles during her early life at her native home in Kapsait, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The 26 year old mother of twins said abject poverty led her to drop out of school and thus would want to inspire children from humble backgrounds to keep focus and determination.

“I thank Stanbic for approaching me to be part of this noble project. Through them I am looking forward to inspiring the young generation so that they can make it in life,” said Kosgei.

According to Mudiwa, the partnership also entails women empowerment through its women proposition DADA, where the bank continues to proactively invest in women and their business for a more equitable progressive society.

Mudiwa explained that the Bank also has a long-term plan to set up a marathon in the future.

“We also believe as a future dream for this country to have a world class marathon where we can have Brigid compete in,” he said.

Kosgei, the reigning London Marathon champion was set to kick start her season at the cancelled Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Half Marathon that was scheduled for February 19.

She said despite the cancellation of the race, Kosgei said she will continue with her preparations as she eyes the Olympic Games.
