Botched preseason affected us – Nakuru’s Oloo

Top Fry Nakuru head coach Felix Oloo has attributed his charges laboured start to the season to lack of proper preseason.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after recording a crucial win on Saturday against Kakamega-based Western Bulls, Oloo said too much speculation about the team’s direction before the start of the season and subsequent lack of preseason training impacted largely on their start to the season.

The established Kenya Cup side lost their first three games of the season to Menengai Oilers, Homeboyz and KCB respectively, to leave them languishing at 10th in league standings.

However an upturn of form has seen the Wanyore record back to back wins against Quins and Western Bulls to climb up to seventh in the log.

“We started the season so badly. We didn’t have a pre-season training and that affected us. There was too much speculation on the club’s direction and lot more and that didn’t help either.

“But we’ve grown into the league and the boys are starting to gel better and we are happy to win our second game in a row,” he explained.

Oloo hopes that the grit and determination showed by the Wanyore over the weekend, will be replicated in their upcoming fixture against Impala as he sets his eyes on play off qualification.

“I am now optimistic. We will pick the positives and also try to address the negatives in our game. If we can win against Impala then that will give us some momentum to build on. We’re taking it game after game.” Said a calm and collected Oloo.

His stance was echoed by Nakuru Captain Crispin Onyango.

On the other hand Western Bulls head coach Solomon Obiro was left ruing the wasted chances in their game against Nakuru but expressed optimism in his team delivering results elsewhere.

Obiro pointed out that their lack of coordinated training as a team could be their worst undoing this season but promised to fight to remain in the National league.

“We don’t always train together as a team. In a week we train maybe once and that’s it. Everyone else trains on their own and that can affect any team. It’s not an excuse though because all the players are experienced and know the basics of rugby. Our target is to remain in the Kenya Cup and we are hopeful we will achieve that.”

The Echulusi charges welcome fellow strugglers Kisumu RFC on their matchday six fixture while Wanyore entertain Impala Saracens.

All eyes will however be on the top of the table clash pitting champions KCB and log leaders Kabras Sugar.
