Big Wheels Ambaka tips Shujaa to regain footing in Vegas, Vancouver legs

Kenya’s Rugby Sevens center Willy Ambaka believes that working on inconsistency will help Shujaa get positive results in the upcoming Los Angeles and Vancouver Sevens later this month.

Ambaka who has played all the last four legs for Shujaa this season says they should work on avoiding conceding many points in the second half as they have done in their last rounds.

“We really didn’t play badly because if you watched those matches we lost narrowly by a try or two points so for us is just to go to the drawing board and sort some things which didn’t go well for us in the second half,” Ambaka explained in an interview with Citizen Digital.

“At the moment the boys are looking fine and sharp and what we can do is keep our heads high and keep working hard to get results in Las Angeles,” he added.

In the U.S, Paul Feeney charges will battle it out with Dubai champions South Africa, Ireland and Canada in Pool B, and Ambaka is optimistic of good results if they work hard and take each match at a time.

“We will just focus and sort ourselves out and the games will just take care of themselves because we get good results through working hard and taking each match at a time,” observed Ambaka, popularly known as ‘Big Wheels’ for his giant frame

The Kenya Harlequins center has played professionally for Manawatu in New Zealand’s MITRE 10 Cup, French Rugby Pro D2 team, Lyon OU, and the South African Currie Cup side Western Province and he believes his experience alongside Kenya’s top try-scorer in the IRB Series Collins Injera, skipper Andrew Amonde and Billy Odhiambo will help Shujaa get good results in the upcoming fixtures.

“In every set up you need experience because the players have been there before and they know what it takes to be in the World Series.

“It’s a good bunch of players and what we can do at the moment is to help the young players and make sure we work hard to get good results.”

Shujaa are currently 11th in the overall HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with 26 points, seven points behind 10th placed Canada and a point ahead of 12th place Scotland.
