Bidco ready for Premier League giants, says Akhulia
Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia is not bothered by the seemingly difficult opening fixtures of the Kenyan Premier League, released on Wednesday.
The newly promoted side begins their campaign against Posta Rangers on November 22, with AFC Leopards, Ulinzi Stars, Tusker FC and holders Gor Mahia next on the list.
Akhulia says approaching the matches as block would be tasking mentally, preferring to plan for each opponent uniquely.
“We have to take one game at a time. The first five fixtures are very tough because we are facing the best teams in the league including the defending champions, but we are determined to give our best and get the best results possible.
Akhulia however says he is not demanding much from the players, only targeting to cement a place in the topflight.
“This season will be tough, going by what we have seen teams doing in terms of strengthening their squads. We have therefore set a realistic target, to remain in the Premier League then we can see what to do in the subsequent season. Once we keep our place then we can discuss challenging for the title,” the veteran coach told Citizen Digital.
Having signed a good number of experienced players during the transfer window including the 2012 Golden Boot winner Stephen Waruru, the veteran tactician says he is impressed with the progress so far in the camp.
“Most of the players we have signed have played in the top league. We had a good team that fought to promotion but we needed some experience in the team and that’s exactly what we added. Once the blend learns how to work together we expect a very strong team,” observed Akhulia.
According to the coach, Bidco have been training amid despite the COVID-19 plague, strictly adhering to regulations set by the Government to curb spreads of the virus.
