Bidco hopeful for positive start after win over Sharks

Kenya Premier League new boys Bidco United will aim to build on their 1-0 victory in their final preseason friendly against Kariobangi Sharks when they take on Western Stima in their topflight debut on Sunday.

Veteran marksman Stephen Waruru thumped home the winner from the spot to hand them a morale-boosting victory, a result that has left head coach Anthony “Vieira” Akhulia beaming with confidence that his charges can go toe-to-toe with other elite teams in the division.

“I was very impressed by the way they played and contained a very seasoned side. This result will boost their morale as they prepare to play our first game of the season,” he told Citizen Digital.

He says they will target a positive result on Sunday as a way of boosting the confidence of his players.

“This is our first match in the topflight league and it can’t get better than registering a win in our first assignment.

Akhulia is not dismayed by the prospect of playing away in their season debut adding that his players are up to the task of returning home with a win.

“We have trained well and am confident the boys will rise to the occasion and deliver the goods.”

Despite kicking off their preseason training late Akhulia expects his players to grow in terms of fitness and match-sharpness as the league progresses.

In a bid to hit the ground running, the team recruited heavily in the off-season acquiring the services of 11 new players including 2011/12 top scorer Stephen Waruru, former Tusker and AFC Leopards ace Noah Wafula, Pistone Mutamba, Wilson Anekeya, Luke Ochieng’ Brian Opondo Dennis Monda, Batts Awita, Anthony Gathu, Victor Oyugi and former Murang’s seal shot-stopper Edwin Mukolwe.
