Amukowa throws weight behind Musonye’s FKF bid

Nicholas Musonye, has been backed by former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Western Branch chairman Andrew Amukowa to lead the country’s football body.

Retired CECAFA Secretary General Musonye announced he would vie for FKF’s top seat and looks set for a titanic battle with incumbent Nick Mwendwa.

Amukowa who had joined the race to challenge Mwendwa, has instead made a u- turn to throw his weight behind Musonye while he focuses on becoming the National executive Committee member.

“We are behind Musonye (Nicolas) and this time we are not joking around. He has a clean sheet in the Cecafa body where he has served for years. His experience should be applied in cleaning and strengthening our football federation.

“He has already talked to me and there is good will and so what should be done is meeting other like-minded souls who will throw their weight behind him,” Amukowa opined.

After leaving cecafa where he served for 21 years, Musonye declared interest in the Kakamega county gubernatorial post before the twist of events.

Amukowa has however called for upon the registration of all the clubs afresh so as to avoid ghost clubs that may manipulate the outcome of polls.

“All the existing clubs should be allowed to register so as to be counted and that any ghost club that had been lined up should be stopped if we want free and fair exercise.

The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) ruled in March that Football Kenya Federation has no mandate to run the National Elections and asked the world football governing body, Fifa, to appoint a normalization committee to ensure elections are held according to the law.

However, FIFA rejected the proposal of forming a normalization committee to oversee elections as Mwendwa remain in office until elections are held.

FKF presidential aspirants list has continued to increase with others being Sam Nyamweya, Moses Akaranga, Alex Ole Magwelo, Harun Shivachi and Cosmus Nabongolo.
