Ambitious Sharks target league title

Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya is upbeat that his side is more than prepared to lift their first ever league  title when the league sets off on August 31.

The youthful coach who was born and brought up in the Korogocho slums in Nairobi is full of confidence that his lads are equal to the task as they bid to open another chapter after beating Everton 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time at the Kasarani Stadium in a friendly match early this month.

Muluya has made two signings roping in striker John Omondi from Emanani Secondary School and defender Amani Kiata from relegated Mt Kenya United to improve his squad for the new season exploits.

“We are going on with the pre-season to sharpen our squad at Utalii Sports Ground. We have signed John Omondi from Emanani and Amani Kiata from Mt Kenya as we target to be champions (League title).

Sharks who were widely considered as among the top four teams last term failed to live to their huge reputation finishing ninth after blowing hot and cold.

According to the Sharks boss, Everton gave them a superb experience as he expects his side to now shift focus to the new season.

“The match was good but the priority now is forget about it and look ahead on the fixtures to play,” Muluya said.

Sharks were close to earn a ticket to represent the country in the Caf Confederations Cup this year but lost 1-3 to Bandari at Kasarani Stadium on June 1.

The was promoted to the top league in 2016 on the final day thanks to Patillah Omotto’s goal that helped them beat Nzoia Sugar 1-0 and since then they have managed maintain their stay in the Kenyan Premier league.

Sharks will begin their campaign for the 2019-20 season against visiting side Western Stima at Kasarani Stadium on August 30.
