Ambani says FKF irrational for ending KPL season

Former AFC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani has urged Football Kenya Federation and the Kenyan Premier League to sit down and find a suitable manner to conclude the 2019/20 season.

Ambani faulted FKF president Nick Mwendwa for ‘irrationally’ declaring Gor Mahia FC as champions before exploring other avenues and without involving KPL, who manage the running of the league.

The former Kenyan international emphasised the need for truce on the matter to avoid football hostility in the country.

“I believe that in everything that entails more than one entity, people should sit down discuss and agree on the way forward.

It is not logical for hurriedly declaring Gor Mahia champions yet even Egypt which is the Caf headquarter has not nullified of declared anybody as champion,” Ambani charged.

Mwendwa announced Gor as champions two weeks ago following the Covid-19 pandemic that forced the league to be suspended indefinitely.

Gor were leading the league on 54 points only seven ahead of second placed Kakamega Homeboyz who had a game at hand with only less than eleven matches remaining to go.

The declaration has since sparked a series of reactions from the KPL who have written to the Confederations of African Football (CAF) in protest of the decision reached by FKF.

Ambani opined that the ‘chest-thumping’ of FKF is not healthy for the growth of football in the country and so the need to rescind the earlier move.

“We have to monitor the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic and source for the right procedures in consultation with the stakeholders before any decision is reached,” Ambani said.

Burundi has already announced May 21 restart of their league while Bundesliga resumes theirs this weekend.

La Liga hopes for June 12 restart while Premier League is poised to go back to normalcy on June 1.
