All set for Aberdeen Shikoyi Cup finale

The 2019 Kenya Rugby Union Women 15 Aside rugby festival renamed KRU Aberdeen Shikoyi Cup will come to an end this weekend with defending champions Black Lions looking to claim their second successive title.

All three Franchises have confirmed their readiness to challenge for the top honours.

The pick of the games will be between defending champions Black Lions and a wounded Chui Franchise as the two are in contention for the top honours.

Tembo Franchise, who had a good outside chance of winning the festival, saw their hopes fade when they were beaten by Black Lion last weekend. This will be a good opportunity for Coach James Njenga (Top Fry Nakuru) and his girls to prove a point. Should they win all their matches and Black Lion lose then arithmetic’s will come to play and history will again be made by the ladies from the west.

Led by Grace Adhiambo, Fresha Awino, Dorcas Nyambura, Veronicah Wanjiku , Marion Atieno and Bernadette Olesia, this Franchise is lethal with ball in hand. The average age of the outfit is just 21 years and in the next year or two they will definitely hit their peak.

The Black Lion Franchise, who are playing cohesive rugby this season, without any doubt are the best side but had narrow escape in their encounters against Chui franchise. Led by Philadelphia Olando and well supported by Janet Okello, Celestine Masinde, Stacynice Atieno and Everlyne kalemera, they boast of an outstanding outfit. Credit should go also to their injured outstanding forward Imogen Hooper who has been in fantastic shape for the Franchise.

Chui Franchise should have things their way when they lock horns against Tembo Franchise in the first clash of the day. Chui have some stars in their outfit and without a doubt, Leah Njogu is one of them. She is almost omnipresent on defense and attack. She is well-supported by Irene Otieno, Millicent Opala, Mercy Migongo, Sophia Ayieta , Monicah Mweni , Stellah Wafula and Christabel Lindo, who are equally very good players.

The KRU Women 15 A-side tournament started in 2017 was later renamed KRU Aberdeen Shikoyi Cup in 2018 in honour of the Late legendary Aberdeen Shikhoyi, Kenya Lioness 7s & 15s skipper.
