Adagala, ex-FKF official slam Mwendwa leadership

Chemelil Sugar chairman Moses Adagala has slammed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa’s ‘unwarranted’ announcement that called an end to the country’s suspended football season.

Mwendwa declared Gor Mahia FC as the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions last month while relegating Chemelil and Kisumu All Stars but that decision was reversed by a court order earlier this week.

Football stakeholders have continued to voice strong reactions over whether Mwendwa had such powers with KPL Ltd – who manage the league – also writing to continental governing body CAF over the matter.

“The Kenyan football constitution should be respected to the latter. In fact his time in office plus the National executive council expired according to tribunal,” Adagala told Citizen Digital.

Adagala added Mwendwa’s ‘one-man-show’ approach to football governance was dangerous to the game and suggested his leadership should be toppled.

“Chemelil has the capacity to win all their five home matches and successfully fight to remain in the top flight league. Since I took over as Chemelil chairman we have won all our three home matches and so I don’t see what can prevent us to post good results in the five remaining home matches amongst the nine to complete this season.”

Former FKF vice-chairman Twaha Mbarak meanwhile insisted Mwendwa did not follow protocol and had no mandate to hand Gor the title.

“He(Mwendwa) should first leave the office. His term is over and I don’t understand why he’s still making decisions on matters concerning football in Kenya. KPL had the mandate to decide the fate of our league not an individual whose terms is over,” Twaha said.

“On May 21st we expect Sports Dispute Tribunal to give another ruling; KPL went to court to seek intervention for those who are still in office and their terms to serve are overdue, but just to insist, Mwendwa should respect the laws and our courts.” Twaha added.

This comes a few days after AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda hailed SDT move to nullify the decision to end the top-flight and crown Gor Mahia.

In his ruling,SDT chairman John Ohaga overruled the FKF decision until a hearing is held to determine the outcome of the matter.
