Woman charged with masquerading as a lawyer in Kiambu

A middle-aged woman was on Tuesday arraigned for allegedly masquerading as a lawyer at Kikuyu township in Kiambu County.

Appearing before Kikuyu Senior Resident Magistrate Z.W Gichana, the accused; Winnie Wairimu Mugo, was charged with making false assumption of authority contrary to the law.

She was further charged with making a document without authority with intent to deceive or fraud.

The court heard that on August 16, 2019 at Kikuyu township in Kiambu, the accused presented herself as an advocate of Winnie W Mugo & Company Advocates knowing that she was not authorized by law to act as such.

She denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.

The case will be mentioned on September 24 when the hearing date will also be fixed.
