Woman abandons 6-year-old in lodging

Police are looking for a middle-aged woman in Kiambogo Village, Laikipia County who is accused of abandoning her 6-year-old child in a lodging.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, area Assistant Chief Steven Jepkorir said the woman had paid for a room at Kituamba area on Monday and escaped very early the next day, leaving behind the child.

The 6-year-old boy is now temporarily under the care of a good Samaritan while police have launched a manhunt for the mother.

This comes barely one day after a 32-year-old woman was arraigned in a Nakuru court and charged with stealing a 3-month-old baby from her neighbour.

Appearing before Magistrate Gladys Wamaitha on Monday, the mother of four was accused of stealing baby Georgina Waweru on July 5, 2016 at Kiamunyeki Village in Nakuru County and depriving her parents, Grace Wanjiru and Lawrence Waweru, the opportunity to care for their child.

According to the prosecution, the woman stole the baby girl to prove to her boyfriend by the name Ondiku that she had delivered a baby and that he was responsible.

She denied the charges. The case will be heard on August 12 to allow the prosecution time to conclude investigations.
