Wiper rubbishes Ruto, Kalonzo competition

Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) has refuted claims made by Deputy President William Ruto that party leader Kalonzo Musyoka competed with him (Ruto) in the 2013 General Elections.

In a statement, the party said that Jubilee leaders have switched into a panic mode ahead of 2017 General Elections adding that Kalonzo was Raila Odinga’s running mate and not Ruto’s competitor.

“In 2013, Kalonzo Musyoka was Raila’s running mate as Ruto was to Uhuru and, therefore, to say that Ruto was in competition with Kalonzo is far from truth or trying to fit shoes that are bigger than your size,” read the statement in part.

The leaders hit out at Ruto for faulting Odinga’s decision to choose Kalonzo as his running mate in 2013 saying the “so called advice to their CORD competitors” is uncalled for.

Wiper also pointed out that Kenyans have lost confidence in Jubilee’s style of leadership adding that Kenyans are craving for leaders who can fight corruption, insecurity and Joblessness

In his speech during a tour of Kisumu on Sunday, Ruto told the residents that he had no problem with Odinga because he was not his competitor.

“I was not Raila’s competitor, Uhuru was. My competitor was Kalonzo and I defeated him and will still defeat him in 2017,” he said.

The sentiments have not augured well with Wiper party leaders who have urged Ruto to encourage Kenyans to elect leaders with clean past records and capacity to unite the country is he means well.

They advised Jubilee leaders to tackle corruption in the country noting Kenyans are tired of empty talks on issues of corruption and insecurity.

The statement was signed by Director of Elections and Kitui East MP Major (Rtd.) Marcus Muluvi, Kathiani MP and party’s organising secretary Hon Robert Mbui and Hon Peter Mathuki, Wiper’s Deputy Secretary General and MP East African Legislative Assembly.
