Wiper party MPs say Kalonzo Musyoka wont quit presidential race
The
battle for control and influence in Ukambani region played out on Wednesday as
the region's governors trashed Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s planned meeting
scheduled for this weekend at his Yatta home in Machakos County.
Machakos
Governor Alfred Mutua, Makueni's Kivutha Kibwana and their Kitui counterpart
Charity Ngilu played down Kalonzo's plan insisting any meeting must be
conducted in a public venue.
“Mkutano wa viongozi unafanywa mahali watu
wako kama Wote stadium, Machakos stadium…mkutano unaoitwa kwa nyumba ya mtu,
that is not a political meeting of leaders, hiyo ni New Year’s party,” said Governor
Mutua.
“We’re
not just to go anywhere…because kuna mtu amesemekana akienda mbele wengine
watafuata. Each one of us is important and we have to sit down on the table for
our people, hiyo ijulikane wazi wazi,” said Governor Kibwana.
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior however maintained that the three governors who have since shown their allegiance to ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Azimio la Umoja movement have no major impact in Ukambani as compared to Musyoka.
“Governors
have been invited to the Yatta meeting…and we have seen the rumors circulating
that either the party leader of Wiper is going to quit the presidential race or
join Azimio…those type of things are not part of why we have called for that
meeting,” said Senator Mutula.
