We can be one nation again, Raila to Kenyans

CORD leader Raila Odinga has expressed optimism of ensuring the country reunites despite political differences in the country.

Raila thanked Kenyans for attending Madaraka Day celebrations at the Afraha Stadium and CORD rally at Uhuru Park in Nairobi saying both events were significant to the country’s democracy.

“Whether you showed up in Uhuru Park or Afraha Stadium, thank you for reviving the spirit that prevailed 53 years ago,” he stated.

“We can be one nation, one people again. God bless you all, God bless Kenya.”

CORD has been at loggerheads with Jubilee over a host of issues including the demands for the reformation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which has led to four street protests as the opposition coalition moves to remove the commissioners from office.

While CORD has called for dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta to seek a solution to the impasse, the Head of State has stated that he does not have powers to disband the commission urging CORD to channel their grievances through Parliament.

The issue has drawn a wedge between leaders of the two parties and their supporters, leading to intervention by the church through the National Churches Council of Kenya and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) who met CORD and IEBC in a bid to end the stalemate.

CORD has however insisted that they would push through with calls for the removal of IEBC commissioners from office saying Jubilee has until Monday to heed their calls failure to which they will resume their protest on Monday.
