Wamboras impeachment ghosts return

Embu Governor Martin Wambora faces another hurdle of retaining his seat following revival of an impeachment case against him.

This is after former Manyatta Member of Parliament Emilio Kathuri filed a case challenging his eligibility as governor, claiming Wambora had been impeached over gross misconduct thereby unfit to hold office.

In his affidavit, Kathuri claims that the Supreme Court in a December 15th 2017 ruling found the manner in which the county assembly of Embu removed Wambora from office on January 16^th, 2014 was legal and proper.

The then former speaker of Embu Assembly Justus Kariuki and Clerk Jim Kauma had also appealed against a ruling by the High Court in Kerugoya that had found them to have been in contempt of the court for ignoring a court order stopping the impeachment motion.

An impeachment that was later upheld by the Senate.

Kathuri claims that since the county assembly passed a vote of no confidence in the governor over the issues and the Senate went ahead to impeach him, then the governor is in office illegally and ought to be removed.

The former mp said Wambora lacks integrity to run a public office and asked the court to give orders to declare the same.

The suit seems to have compounded issues for Wambora who is already facing an election petition filed by former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti challenging his August 8th, 2017 victory.

Wambora was impeached twice in his first term but fought through his ouster bids to complete his term.
