Waiguru should step aside- Ukambani leaders

Leaders in Ukambani have added their voice for the removal of Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to step aside over graft allegations facing her ministry.

Led by Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, the members of parliament said corruption was crippling the capacity of the jubilee administration to lead the country.

The leaders also called for unity among leaders in Ukambani region.

Even as pressure started to dwindle against CS Waiguru after she recorded a statement with the anti-graft body EACC earlier this week, the Ukambani legislators are still adamant that she must step aside if the credibility on the fight against graft is to be restored.

The government was also accused of curtailing freedoms of its citizenry.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior also took a swipe at Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery for threatening the media.

“We want to tell Nkaissery that he is not above the law. Na akifikiria atatisha watu wa media, hata yeye ndio tutafunga. Because he is not above the law,” said Mutula.

Earlier this week the Cord coalition presented a constitutional amendment framework backed by 1.4 million signatures of voters for consideration.

The former Vice President urged the electoral body IEBC to effectively assess the document.

The leaders were speaking during a funds drive for Makueni women empowerment programme in Mukuyuni town during which over 19 million shillings was raised.
