Waiguru endorsed for national leadership post as G7 Strategy activated in Kirinyaga County
Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has been recognized as a strong candidate for a national leadership position in the upcoming general election.
During the G7 Strategy activation event in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, six governors, deputy governors, county women representatives, and senior government officials endorsed Waiguru's suitability for a higher office, citing her impressive contributions to the county and her leadership at CoG.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga emphasized Waiguru's selfless service,
stating that once her term concludes, she should transition to national
leadership in any capacity. "She is a strong woman fit for any
position," Wanga remarked, highlighting the invaluable lessons the G7
colleagues have learned from Waiguru, whose legacy in Kirinyaga will endure.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti expressed her intention to replicate
some of Kirinyaga's successful projects in her own county, noting that the
standards at one of Kirinyaga's hospitals rival those of the nation's largest
facilities. "There is much to be done for Kenya, and Waiguru fits the
bill," she said.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani commended Waiguru as an excellent mentor and role model for women in leadership. She noted Waiguru's ability to navigate the challenges that female leaders often face, calling her an inspiration for many.
Achani encouraged Waiguru to pursue national service once her tenure in
Kirinyaga concludes, stating, "Governor Anne Waiguru has come of age in
national politics."
Cabinet Secretary for National Defense Soipan Tuya asserted that only a woman
could achieve the level of success Waiguru has demonstrated in Kirinyaga. She
highlighted that the G7 strategy is crucial for ensuring more women are elected
to leadership roles.
Women representatives also praised Waiguru’s development
accomplishments, affirming that future female leaders will build upon her
achievements. "We have witnessed the remarkable work Waiguru has done, and
we believe the future is female. By 2032, the presidency will belong to a
woman, and Waiguru will be there," declared Faith Gitau, Nyandarua County's
Woman Representative.
This sentiment was echoed by women representatives Esther Passaris and
Samburu County MP Lesuuda, who referenced Waiguru's innovative contributions to
the national government, including the establishment of Huduma Centres.
Ida Odinga, the patron of G7, expressed her admiration for Waiguru's
development record, stating that she is well-suited for the next level of
leadership. Ida affirmed G7's commitment to supporting women in their
political aspirations, aiming to meet and exceed the two-thirds gender
threshold.
Council of Governors Deputy Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi and Murang’a
County Governor Irungu Kang’ata pledged their strategic support for the G7
movement. Kang’ata shared that he has learned much from Kirinyaga County,
particularly regarding Waiguru’s cabro project and healthcare initiatives.
In response to her colleagues’ praise, Waiguru acknowledged the
long-standing underrepresentation of women in positions of power. She
reiterated that the G7 movement aims to provide a framework for collective
efforts to realize the full potential of devolution in Kenya while amplifying
women's voices in leadership.
