Vehicle bursts into flames on Langata Road

A vehicle caught fire on Lang’ata Road on Friday night sending motorists into panic.

The driver of the Volkswagen Passat told Citizen TV that he was headed home when he noticed a smell like that of burning wires.

He said he tried to extinguish the fire but the vehicle burst into flames.

He was alone at the time but managed to escape with no injuries.

One motorist later stopped in front of the burning vehicle and switched on his hazard lights even as others zoomed past.

The Nairobi County fire brigade was called to the scene and arrived at around 9:20pm.

They battled with the fire for a few minutes as its flames raged from the front of the vehicle but eventually managed to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established though there are claims that it was due to an electric fault.

It’s very unfortunate. It’s my friend’s car @rigs12 which went into flames due to electrical fault. It took fire brigade more than 30 mins to come from CBD,” one @SilasNTO wrote on Twitter.

This is the second car in less than a week to catch fire on Lang’ata Road.
