'Uhuru will not retire from politics,' Nyeri MP Ngunjiri says
Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu says President Uhuru
Kenyatta will
not retire from politics even after his term as president ends next year.
Speaking
in Nyeri town on Tuesday as he issued bursary
forms to Nyeri residents, Ngunjiri said that Kenyatta will continue his role as
the Jubilee Party leader even as his term in
office expires.
“Our primary focus is that whoever takes over the next
government must be somebody who is committed to continuing the legacy that
exists. Our party leader is not going to retire from politics, he is going to
continue being the party leader for a couple of years even after he retires
from politics,” said Ngunjiri.
"As a party we cannot work with someone who the only thing
he wishes you when he wakes up is to die."
He further pointed out that the Jubilee
Party will roar
back to life as it embarks on political activities
in the coming days, adding that at the moment their
focus is on the
delivery of their promises.
Ngunjiri downplayed the impact of Deputy President William Ruto’s three-day
visit to Nyeri
County saying that Central
Kenya will
back a presidential candidate who respects the interests of the region.
He added that any gains made by the
deputy president and the UDA party will be reversed
once the Jubilee campaigns kick-off.
Ngunjiri
also confirmed that they will be part of the Azimio la Umoja meeting as
observers on December 10, 2021, at Kasarani where ODM party
leader Raila Odinga is expected to declare his presidential bid.
At the same time, Ngunjiri, a key ally
of the President, said the Jubilee Party plans to hold a National Delegates
Conference before Christmas to chart
a new frontier ahead of the next general election.
