Uhuru on BBI: It is not about presidency or prime ministership

President Uhuru Kenyatta has rubbished claims that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report is about political succession.

According to the President, the ‘winner takes it all mentality’ in Kenya must end and everybody must be content after every election.

“I want to repeat as I said yesterday (Tuesday), this document does not belong to me and Raila. It doesn’t! It belongs to you. This document is not about this individual’s presidency and that individual’s prime ministership. It is about all of us. What we are looking for is a document about posterity,” he said.

He said there will be many more Presidents in future but only one Kenya and therefore citizens have a common responsibility to protect their country.

The President was speaking on Wednesday when he and ODM leader Raila Odinga received the BBI report from the Yusuf Haji-led task force.

He announced that the document will be officially launched on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the Bomas of Kenya and urged Kenyans to read it before taking positions.

“Wakenya tuisome…sio tukiwa tumeweka kofia ya kisiasa. Tuisome kama wananchi wa Jamhuri ya Kenya. Let us read it as individual citizens because it is about your life, the life of your children and your children’s children. Let us not politicize life! Politics will come and go but this society that we call Kenya is here to stay,” President Kenyatta added.

The Head of State averred that the BBI presents another historical time for Kenyans to analyze what prevents the country from moving forward and then rectify the issues for a sustainable future for everyone.

He urged Kenyans to read the document and make contributions without creating constestation.

“We are not lookin for what we disagree about. We are saying these ones that we agree on let us have consensus and move forward,” he said.

President Kenyatta pleaded with politicians saying this is not the time to create division but to show leadership and unite the country.

He reiterated that the document is intended to unite Kenyans and is not for an individual, community, the rich against the poor or the poor against the rich.

According to him, the BBI report is for an inclusive society that is equitable and creates opportunity for all as well as a safe and secure country.

“It creates great economic opportunity from the natural resources from the intelligence and capacity of our youth: it takes cares of all interests and ensures that no one is left out,” President Kenyatta added.
