Two seriously injured in Thika-Kenol highway accident
Two passengers were seriously injured on Thursday in a grisly road accident at Kihua-ini area on the Thika-Kenol highway.
The accident occurred after a lorry transporting gravel lost control and collided with a 14-seater matatu.
Makuyu Traffic Commander Abdulahi Tato confirmed the incident saying other passengers had sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kenol Hospital in Murang’a.
Mr. Tato urged drivers to observe traffic rules, adding that traffic police would be on high alert to nub rogue and careless drivers.
This comes amid heightened concern among stakeholders over the spike in number of accidents witnessed this month.
Over 180 people have perished in tragic road accidents since the beginning of the month of December.
The major causes were reported to be speeding, lane indiscipline, driving under the influence of alcohol, poor overtaking, presence of other users, obstacles and animals on the roads.
The government, through the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Tuesday, December 19 released a new list of tough measures in a bid to tame the high number of accidents.
