Two lawyers arrested for allegedly defrauding Sony Sugar Company millions of shillings

Two lawyers in Migori County have been arrested in connection to theft of millions of shillings from Sony Sugar Company through fake litigation.

Confirming the incident, Migori County Director of Criminal Investigation Njeru Nyaga said the two; Karario Marwa and Samwel Odingo, were arrested on Wednesday evening and are being detained at Migori Police Station.

The lawyers are accused of representing farmers whose contracts for cane harvesting were allegedly breached by the sugar company without their (farmers’) knowledge.

They are also alleged to have been using fake documents to win millions of shillings against the company.

The DCI pointed out that some of the said cases involve farmers who died several years back.

They are set to be arraigned at the Kisii Law Courts on Thursday.
