Two Cuban doctors who were recalled to Nairobi transferred to Kiambu

The Kiambu County government has received two Cuban doctors who are part of the team that was transferred from high risk areas.

Area Governor Ferdinand Waititu received the two doctors only on Tuesday morning.

“Kiambu County today welcomed 2 Cuban doctors. The two join 2 other Cuban doctors deployed to our facilities. In December 2018, my government hired 40 medics to help ease workload and improve service delivery in our health facilities, which currently receive over 10k patients daily,” the Governor said.

They will be posted to Kihara and Tigoni regions respectively.

Kiambu County Chief of Staff Gibson Mburu emphasised the importance of co-existence between the Cuban doctors and local medics.

“The doctors will boost the county’s health sector and provide better services to the residents,” he said.

The move comes barely a month after two of their counterparts in Mandera County were abducted.

It is suspected that members of the al-Shaabab were behind the kidnap.

The incident saw the government recall Cuban doctors who had posted to Garissa, Lamu and Wajir counties.

Four Cuban doctors who had been posted to hospitals in Lamu and Tana River counties arrived in Nairobi on Monday morning.
