Two Baringo MCAs claim their lives are in danger

Two Baringo MCAs are in hiding out of fear that they might be arrested ahead of DP William Ruto’s visit to the county on Friday.

DP Ruto is expected to attend the funeral of the late Hosea Kiplagat, former Co-operative Bank executive chairman and a Moi-era politician.

The two MCAs– Sylas Tochim (Tenges Ward) and Reuben Chepsongol (Bartabwa Ward) claim that they have were being trailed for the better part of Thursday.

“I am aware that they want to arrest us as a way of silencing us since we are ardent crusaders of Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid, something which has angered some quarters,” said Chepsongol.

He told Chamgei FM via phone that they suspect that those who trailed them late into the night were security officers in plain clothes.

Chepsongol expressed fear for their lives saying they don’t know what might happen next.

The duo further claimed that their colleagues Kipruto Kimosop (Mochongoi Ward) and Lawi Kipchumba (Lembus Kwen) who also the majority leaders at the county assembly are being sought too.

The revelations come hours after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) summoned Baringo MCAs and other staff members to record statements over chaos which ensued at the House last week.

Baringo County became the first devolved unit in Kenya to reject the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill during a session that degenerated into chaos.

Multiple reports say teargas was lobbed into the assembly, forcing the legislators to scurry for safety.
