TSC recalls all staff on leave to prepare for KCPE, KCSE exams

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recalled all its staff currently on leave to prepare for national examinations.

In a circular, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia cancelled all annual leave and field activities for all sub-county, county and regional officers during the examination period.

Macharia said this will ensure that all field staff offer undivided attention to the examination process, with necessary measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID19.

“The Commission has already issued guidelines that emphasize the need for all teachers who will be involved in the examination exercise to comply with all COVID-19 mitigation measures provided by the Ministry of Health,” reads the statement in part.

She added that 227,679 teachers will serve as invigilators, supervisors, centre managers and examiners. Those affected have been directed to report back to duty on Monday March 8, 2021.

Meanwhile, the TSC boss noted that Grade 4 assessments will kick off next week.

“I urge all field officers here today to support schools and ensure that class teachers access the KNEC assessment tools and administer them to their learners as seamlessly as they can. I must emphasize that these tests should be done in normal class hours and all learners should not be put under any tense atmosphere that is different from their normal day-day classes,” she said.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams are scheduled to begin in the next three weeks.
