Three gangsters gunned down in Mombasa
Police in Mombasa on Tuesday gunned down three suspected gangsters after they committed a robbery at a petrol station in Kisauni area.
One police officer was seriously injured in the shootout and rushed to a nearby hospital while another suspect escaped with bullet wounds in an incident that occurred along the busy Old Malindi road.
According to Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia, the three suspects were shot dead after they allegedly tried to fire at some of his officers who had ordered them to surrender when fuelling their car at a petrol station.
He further confirmed that police managed to recover one pistol and several rounds of ammunition at Beer Sheba slum in Kisauni.
Ngatia said the suspects were being trailed by the police following the killing of a local businessman last year.
Police claim the suspects are part of a gang that has been terrorising residents at the coast for a while.
