Thika: Six suspected thugs shot dead in botched robbery attempt

Six suspected thugs were on Sunday night shot dead by police as they attempted to raid a factory in Makongeni estate, Thika.

The six, including a 61-year-old man, were among a group of twenty found robbing a biscuit manufacturing company, Sunveat Foods Limited, in Thika West.

They are said to have gained entry to the factory by drilling a hole on the perimeter fence after which they tied one of the night guards with a rope.

The thugs ransacked the premises but one of the guards managed to sneak out and alerted the officers from Makongeni Police Station.

Led by area OCS James Mwita, the officers responded on time and managed to catch up with the thugs, killing six on the spot while some fled with gunshot wounds.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police Commander Adiel Nyange said they recovered a toy pistol, machetes, nine television sets and cartons of biscuits among other items.

The Kiambu police boss further appealed to hospitals and other health institutions to report anybody seeking medical treatment with gunshot wounds.

Bodies of the gunned thugs were later taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital mortuary.

According to a tweet on Monday morning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the same robbers had earlier on also attempted to invade Prime Value Company where they assaulted one security guard.

“The officers were forced to use firearms after the thugs started attacking them with crude weapons,” read the tweet.

“Detectives are still looking for the other robbers who escaped (some with injuries) to be brought to book.”
