Ten patients succumb to COVID-19 in Kenya as 394 test positive

Ten patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in Kenya bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,614.

The Health Ministry said 394 more people tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 5,752 tested in the last 24 hours, raising the country’s caseload to 92,853.

“The cumulative tests are now 984,435. From the cases 367 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners. 271 are males and 123 females. The youngest is a two-year old baby, while the oldest is 93,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement.

424 patients have recovered from the disease: 303 from the Home-Based Care Program while 121 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 74,403.

Distribution of the latest positive cases by counties is as follows: Nairobi 167, Mombasa 59, Taita Taveta 32, Kwale 21, Kilifi 20, Nyeri 13, Kiambu 12, Nandi 7, Kakamega 7, Siaya 6, Kajiado 6, Bungoma 6, Nakuru 5, Neru 5, Nyamira 5, Migori 5, Kisii 4, Kisumu 3, Turkana 2, Nurang’a 2, Nachakos 2, Narok 1, Mandera 1, Vihiga 1, Homa Bay 1, and Lamu 1.

In terms of sub-county distribution, the 167 cases in Nairobi are from Lang’ata (31), Westlands (21), Kibra (17), Dagoretti North, Kasarani and Nakadara (10) cases each, Ruaraka (9), Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South, Embakasi West and Roysambu (7) cases each, Embakasi East, Kamukunji, and Starehe (6) cases each, Nathare (4) and Embakasi North (2).

In Mombasa, the 59 cases are from Mvita (24), Kisauni (12), Changamwe and Jomvu (7) cases each, Likoni (5), Nyali (4).

In Taifa Taveta, the 32 cases are from Voi (32) and Wundanyi (2). In Kwale all the 21 cases are from Msambweni. In Kilifi, the 20 cases are from Kilifi North (12), Malindi (6), Kaloleni (1) and Magarini (1).

In Nyeri the 13 cases are from Nyeri Central (11), Mukurweini and Tetu (1) case each and in Kiambu, the 12 cases are from Githunguri and Kiambu Town (3) cases each, Kabete and Limuru (2) cases each, Ruiru and Thika (1) case each.

In Nandi, the 7 cases are from Nandi Hills (5), Chesumei and Mosop (1) case each, while in Kakamega, the 7 cases are from Lurambi and Numias West (3) cases each, Navakholo (1).

The 6 cases in Siaya are from Rarieda (4) and Alego Usonga (2), the 6 cases in Kajiado, are from Kajiado North (4) and Kajiado Central (2), while all the 6 cases in Bungoma, are from Kanduyi.

In Nakuru, the 5 cases are from Nakuru West (4) and Nakuru East (1), the 5 cases in Meru, are from Imenti North (2), Imenti Central, Imenti South and Tigania East (1) case each, all the 5 cases in Nyamira, are from Nyamira Town and the 5 cases in Migori, are from Suna East (4) and Rongo (1). In Kisii, all the 4 cases are from Kitutu Chache South.

In Kisumu, the 3 cases are from Kisumu Central (2) and Kisumu East (1). The 2 cases in Turkana, are all from Turkana West, the 2 cases in Murang’a, are all from Gatanga and the 2 cases in Machakos are from Athi River and Kangundo (1) case each.

The single cases are in Narok East; Mandera East; Vihiga; Homa Bay Town and Lamu West.
