Tecno donates food to hunger-stricken families in Isiolo County
Residents of Daaba in Isiolo County on Wednesday received food and other assorted items worth Ksh2 million from mobile giant Tecno in a bid to aid residents address the raging drought.
The mobile manufacturer, in conjunction with Action Aid, donated food to about 420 households, and water tanks and sanitary kits that included sanitary pads, soap, and lotion to women.
According to Tecno Kenya’s Marketing Manager Ray Hou, the company intends to give another Ksh2 million to homes in Samburu County and donate to the school feeding program in Kajiado County starting May 2017.
“This CSR was actually made possible by every Kenyan who has purchased Tecno Camon CX or CX air,” said Hou.
“For every gadget purchased one US Dollar goes to Action Aid to support those affected by drought,” he added.
In February, the government declared the current drought affecting 23 arid and semi-arid counties and pockets of other areas a national disaster, with Isiolo County being among the 13 most affected counties.
Other affected counties were Baringo, Turkana, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Kwale, Kilifi, Makueni, Samburu, West Pokot, Kwale, Tharaka Nithi, and Marsabit among others.
According to Red Cross, over 2 million Kenyans are facing starvation.
