Suspected conman facing over 20 fraud cases detained for 14 days

A Nairobi court has allowed police to detain a man accused of defrauding members of the public millions of shillings.

Zachary Mwangi Kariuki had been on the loose despite having eight warrants of arrest on his head and close to 20 fraud cases in different court.

He was arrested in Limuru on Friday by flying squad detectives following a warrant of arrest issued at Kibra law courts in Nairobi

Kariuki is linked to serial money laundering and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Police say, through his firm – Imperial World Ventures – Kariuki allegedly lured his victims to invest their monies with the company and that they would earn 10%interest every month and that the investors would be at liberty to withdraw their savings at will after six months.

The investigating officer told the court that the accused has homes in Nairobi, Nakuru, Limuru and Laikipia West where investigations will be directed as well.

Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoyi directed that Kariuki be detained at Pangani Police Station for 14 days.

The case will be mentioned on September 16, 2019.
