Siaya police set to auction over 100 unclaimed motorcycles, vehicles

At least 100 motorcycles and motor vehicles which have been lying at the Siaya Police Station will be auctioned this weekend, the county has said.

Siaya County’s National Police Department has hired the services of Ikimwanya Auctioneers who will conduct the exercise aimed at disposing the unclaimed assets on Saturday June 22, 2019.

The auctioneers, in a notice seen by Citizen Digital, indicated that they will dispose of unclaimed motor vehicles, motorbikes as well as assorted bicycles.

Confirming the plans, Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli said the auction is a normal exercise meant to clean up the police station.

Mr. Kooli, who stated that they got the consent from court, revealed that most of the motorcycles and vehicles to be disposed are those that got involved in accidents and their owners and insurance companies failed to claim them over a long period of time.

Late last year, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i announced that an administrative forfeiture was in the offing and gave owners of vehicles in police stations six months to claim them.
