Shalom Hospital that was closed after babys death reopened

Shalom Hospital in Machakos town has been reopened after a three-week closure.

This is after the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) carried an investigation of the facility.

On Tuesday, KMPDB chief executive Daniel Yumbya and chairperson Dr. Eva Njenga said they are satisfied with the changes made by the hospital management.

A full report on the situation at the hospital is expected within 90 days.

The health facility was closed on May 6 following the untimely demise of a seven-month-old baby Ethan Muendo.

Baby Ethan was injected with a dose of morphine that was 20 times stronger than what his body could handle.

According to a KMPDB official, Prof. Fredrick Were, Baby Ethan was supposed to be given medication orally but since it was not available, the prescribing practitioner indicated he be injected with the dose of morphine.
