According to Senator Onyonka, the political leaders have been making reckless statements in public, particularly on the prevailing abduction cases.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday, he argued that the leaders have failed to read the room and should tame their tongues given their leadership experiences.
"Some don't because they have never felt that public good or our behavior mattered. We are behaving recklessly. [Someone like] Farah Maalim has been in Parliament for the last 20 years. Joho has been one of the most senior politicians in Kenya, he's been a governor," he noted.
"I may excuse Oscar Sudi (Kapseret MP) because he has not been there long enough, Kamket has been there since I joined Parliament."
In what he termed "the old hands getting into old habits", Onyonka said that political pioneers should be keen on what the citizens demand and showcase astute leadership
"I've not seen government being critical to the political lines," he added.
This comes after the aforementioned legislators have made rage sparking remarks in public over the public's resentment over President William Ruto's government.
MP Sudi scoffed at government critics condemning Ruto and pushing for his ouster, telling online critics, while referring to them as “wakora,” that despite their “noise,” the President is not going anywhere.
Sudi laughed off some of the attacks directed at the President, including the now viral ‘Ruto must go’ slogan, saying such calls were futile.
MP Maalim on his part used unprintable adjectives towards the youthful Gen Zs who criticize the government, asserting that Ruto will not be a one-term ruler.
"When you see everything progressing and then some fools say ‘Kasongo Ruto must go.’ To hell with those who say that! Is he sitting in your mother’s or father’s seat? He is sitting in our seat, and we will re-elect him; we will deliver 99% or even 100%. We are saying Ruto will stay until 2032," Maalim stated, adding unprintable insults directed towards youthful Kenyans.
In July 2024, Maalim was also on the spot for saying if he was Kenya’s supremo, he would have clamped down ruthlessly on the youthful demonstrators and could “even have killed 5000 of them each day”.
Similarly, CS Joho attempted to threaten youthful Kenyans venting their frustrations against President Ruto's administration.
He said that anyone found using social media to pray for Raila Odinga's downfall in his bid for the Africa Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position will face dire consequences.
"I want to tell the young people, nchi haiwezi pelekwa namna hiyo. Wewe unakaa kwa mtandao, unakosa uzalendo; you become so unpatriotic. Wengine wanasema Raila Odinga aanguke AU," he said.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna had said that the Senate will summon Joho to elucidate on the threats.
