School, hospital to be moved away from SGR at a cost of Ksh.467M

The government will spend Ksh.467.9 million to move a secondary school and hospital from the vicinity of the Standard Gauge Railway in Kibwezi, Makueni County.

This is after the managements of the two facilities — Kathekani Secondary School and Mtito Andei Hospital — wrote to Kenya Railways asking to be relocated due to noise disturbance from the trains that pass nearby.

Kathekani Secondary School board Chairman Mr. Michael Mung’ata said Kenya Railways had agreed to their request, saying the relocation will take place over the next one year.

Kibwezi Sub-County Director of Education Kennedy Machora confirmed the plans, saying the school will be newly constructed at a cost of Ksh.225.5 million while the hospital will cost Ksh.242.4 million.
