Reports that counties have received 50% revenue allocation are false- CoG Chairman Oparanya

The Council of Governors Chairmam Wycliffe Oparanya has refuted claims that the treasury has given counties up to 50 per cent of their last year revenue allocation.

In a statement on Friday, Oparanya differed with a Standard Newspaper article that had appeared to say counties had received part of 2020/2021 budgetary allocation.

“The Council refutes the allegations contained in the newspaper as the same is false and misleading to members of the public. In this regard, we hereby inform the public that to-date NO County Government has received the  equitable share of revenue for the Financial Year 2020/21,” the statement reads.

He also noted that county services had stalled on account of on ongoing third generation revenue sharing formula stalemate.

In the same statement, Oparanya urged the Treasury to urgently disburse 50% of the county share of revenue to facilitate uninterrupted service to Kenyans.

A 12-member committee formed to come up with a solution to the contentious formula announced on Wednesday that they had arrived at final formula.

The announcement followed a week of intense negotiations whose outcome will determine how counties receive revenue.

The committee is expected to table its findings and determinations on Thursday.
