Release of Ksh.27B from Nairobi County allocation to NMS suspended

The Senate has been recalled for a special sitting on Wednesday to consider the impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka in a special gazette notice has recalled senators that were already on their Christmas break.

This follows a motion by the Nairobi County assembly that rubber-stamped the removal of Governor Mike Sonko from office.

88 MCAs voted to have the governor removed.

Meanwhile, the embattled governor rushed to court to challenge the decision to transfer funds to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services for 10 days.

This means that the High Court in Nairobi has essentially frozen the disbursement of the Ksh. 27billion budget to the NMS from Nairobi County.

Sonko has been embroiled in a turf war with NMS fighting it off over what he terms as an attempt to usurp his powers.
