Raila Odinga: I will be sworn in soon

Opposition chief Raila Odinga insisted on Sunday that he will be sworn in as the “People’s President” assuring his supporters of the state of the National Super Alliance’s proposed inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at Kikambala, Kilifi County, the opposition supremo said his inauguration was still on course.

“I want to say here again, I am going to carry the Bible. Nobody will stop me from carrying the Bible,” he said, referencing a requisite instrument for the oath taking ceremony.

Mr. Odinga also stated the reasons why the initial inauguration ceremony that had been scheduled for December 12 was postponed, saying the current political environment in the country had not been conducive.

“Kenya is at a tipping point, and that is why we have held ourselves in the last few days in the hope that some kind of common will, will prevail. But we are not going to be impatient forever.”

The former Prime Minister was speaking at a consultative meeting to deliberate on the way forward for the  People’s Assemblies motion at the coastal region.

The meeting was attended by a section of NASA leaders including Siaya Senator James Orengo, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and the Head of the People’s Assembly National Steering Committee, David Ndii.

Also present at the meeting were NASA allied coast region leaders, led by Governors Ali Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi of Mombasa and Kilifi counties respectively, as well as Malindi parliamentarian Aisha Jumwa and her Likoni counterpart, Mishi Mboko.

Several Members of County Assemblies from the six counties making up the coastal region – Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Kwale and Taita Taveta – were also present at the meeting held at the Sun N Sand Hotel.

Aside from Mr. Odinga’s inauguration, cessation talks and the absence of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka from NASA activities for the past two months also formed the agenda for the meeting.
