Raila oath will be administered by qualified judge, says NASA CEO Magaya

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s oath of office will be administered by a qualified judge, National Super Alliance CEO Norman Magaya has said.

In interview with Citizen Digital on Thursday, Magaya did not reveal the name of the judge in question but he said the handing over of the “instruments of power” will be conducted in the full glare of the public.

NASA plans to swear in Mr. Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the people’s president and deputy president on January 30 at Uhuru Park Grounds in Nairobi.

According to Article 141 of the constitution, a president can only be sworn in by the chief registrar of the judiciary in the presence of the Chief Justice or in his absence, the Deputy Chief Justice.

Despite the Nairobi County Government announcing the closure of Uhuru Park until further notice, Magaya insisted that NASA will use the venue.

According to Magaya, the swearing in ceremony will be held at Uhuru Park on Tuesday, January 30 with the “oath of office” and “oath of execution of duties” set to be administered at 10: 00 am.

“We are finalizing plans for the inauguration. We are expecting a number of dignitaries who have already confirmed their attendance. The ones who will not be able to attend the event have sent their congratulatory messages,” said Magaya.

The tough talking CEO dismissed speculation that police might harass NASA supporters saying security officers should only show up if they will provide security to the “mammoth crowd” that will show up for the swearing in.

“Tuesday will be a historic day that will end bad governance in this country. I can guarantee you that it will be a smooth process,” said Magaya.

However the government has indicated through Attorney General Githu Muigai that the event will be an act of “high treason” that is punishable by death.
