‘Raila is your sponsor,’ Sifuna tells Miguna in Twitter fight

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday blasted deported lawyer Miguna Miguna’s claims that opposition leader Raila Odinga did not pay his legal fees when he (Miguna) was detained.

In a barrage of tweets, Sifuna referred to Mr. Odinga as Miguna’s sponsor, saying the self-declared NRM-Kenya General did not pay his fees for legal representation but that the ODM boss made sure his (Miguna’s) lawyers were paid.

Sifuna further stated that he had, in his possession, receipts to prove that he received the money for Miguna’s legal representation from Mr. Odinga before disbursing it to Miguna’s lawyers.

The Twitter war between the two former aspirants of elective seats in Nairobi County began when Raila Odinga, in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, stated that he would not discuss the issue of Miguna’s deportation.

In response via Twitter, the Kenyan-Canadian lawyer lamented over enduring “horrible torture, sedation, forced exile, destruction of property and indignities” after ‘swearing-in’ Odinga as the people’s president on January 30, 2018, only for him (Odinga) to “mumble incoherently on TV.”

“He (Odinga) should be grateful that I fearlessly swore him-in when all the ODM Party lawyers were hiding,” stated Miguna.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Sifuna stated that it was indeed Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang’ who was supposed to conduct the ‘swearing-in’ and that Miguna merely “hijacked” the role.

Miguna faulted Sifuna for not ensuring President Uhuru Kenyatta obeys orders presented by the court when he was detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA.)

You were not detained or tortured. Nor were you lynched. If you came there as an advocate armed with a court order for my release, why did you leave me behind? Why have you not demanded that @UKenyatta obeys all the 13 court orders? Why are you attacking me on @Twitter ?
