Pupils among 12 killed in horrific Kimende accident
12 people were killed and nine others are nursing injuries following an accident at Kimende Town on the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
Among those who died are primary school pupils whose books and uniform were spewed at the scene.
Schools across the country opened on Monday for the third term after a three-week break.
Lari Traffic Police Base Commander Ahmed Mohammed confirmed the Kimende accident that occurred on Tuesday night.
The 18-seater public service vehicle was enroute to Western Kenya from Nairobi when it hit the lorry that was coming from the opposite direction.
The matatu that belongs to Royal Mirage Sacco and the lorry fell off a cliff due to the impact of the collision.
Nine people died instantly while 3 others were pronounced dead on arrival at the Kijabe Hospital.
Rescuers had a difficult time trying to get the victims out of the wreckage in the Kimende accident.
