Prominent names are among the close to 700 applicants seeking to fill four vacant positions at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The IEBC selection panel has published a list of 669 applicants among them former MPs, former and serving members of Constitutional Commissions among other prominent Kenyans.

Notable among those who have applied include former Gem MP Joe Donde, former Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong’are, former Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) chair Florence Jaoko, Amb. The selection panel will now embark on whittling down the list, and thereafter publish the names of those who will have been shortlisted.

The commission is expected to publish the names of those shortlisted with the CVs before the commencement of interviews to fill the position.

The interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted for five days from May 31 to June 4, a timeline the panel however noted could slightly vary given the number of candidates.

The panel hopes to settle on the successful candidates and forward the names to President Uhuru Kenyatta on or about June 9, 2021.

The four IEBC commissioners who left office leaving the vacancies include; Vice Chairperson Consolata Nkatha, commissioners Margaret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat and Roselyn Akombe.
